What Does Burial Insurance Cover?

Burial insurance, or Final Expense as it is commonly referred, is a form of whole life insurance that is designed to cover a burial or cremation.

To keep it simple, burial insurance covers your family when you pass away. The insurance company, or carrier as I refer to it, will cut your beneficiary a check for the policy amount when you pass, so that they can use it for the burial expenses or cremation expenses.

People ages 0-85 can get these types of policies, and they are very easy to apply for. Coverage amounts range from $1,000 up to $40,000, and you can add accidental death or even accelerated death benefits to the policies as well.

Burial insurance policies are issued very quickly and underwriting isn’t near as stringent as bigger Term policies. This means you don’t have to worry about medical exams, physicals, or urine and blood samples.

You simply answer the questions on the carrier’s application, and the carrier does a simple prescription check to verify all of your information is accurate.

Is Burial Insurance Worth Buying?

Absolutely it is. As long as you can afford it, which 90% of my clients are on limited fixed incomes, then yes it is absolutely worth buying.

Burial insurance is one of those products just like all life insurance that people never really see the benefit. Their family or loved ones do, but they don’t. This makes it seem like it is not worth buying.

If you are questioning whether or not burial insurance is worth buying, imagine your family going through your passing without you having it. What would they have to do to pay for the burial or your final wishes?

Go do a yard sale?

Maybe start a GoFundMe?

Or would they have to just settle for what they can afford, even if it wasn’t your wishes? Then they have to deal with that burden forever, knowing that they couldn’t fill your last wishes.

The good news is that you don’t have to put them through any of those scenarios! You can take care of it yourself by getting yourself a burial insurance policy!

Can I get Coverage with Neuropathy?

Most certainly!

Time and time again I hear from people who are discouraged because they have heard from agents who are captive or who don’t represent the best carriers like I do that they can’t get life insurance due to their neuropathy.

I am here to say that is definitely not the case. I have many clients who have neuropathy, especially diabetic neuropathy. I see this almost every day even!

Now, that agent that told you that may have been telling you their truth. Meaning they couldn’t give you coverage. This is not the case with arkburialquote.com

As an independent agent, I represent the best carriers in the nation! All rated A or better. Mostly A+ actually.

What this does is it gives me the ability to shop the best prices with the best companies in the nation. The absolute best. Meaning I can get my clients better and more coverage than your average “agent”.

This especially helps when I have clients with diabetic neuropathy, or neuropathy in general. I have carriers that specialize in covering individuals with these issues, and doing it at the highest level! I have some clients that even got Day One coverage while they have neuropathy.

Day one meaning they had coverage before they went to bed that night. Pretty good right? That’s why you work with someone like me!

Will I have a Waiting Period?

In most cases, no.

If neuropathy is the only issue you have, I have a carrier that can give you coverage before you go to sleep tonight.

However, if you have other issues like COPD, Congestive heart failure, cancer in the last 24 months, we may be looking at a waiting period.

Whatever you do, don’t get shined on by companies like Globe Life or Colonial Penn when they offer the 995 plan. These plans are so misleading, and many people will be hurt by them in my opinion. These policies have a waiting period, and sometimes longer than 3 years!

The waiting periods with my carriers are 24 months, but during that time your beneficiary still gets some benefit! And it’s more than what you would get elsewhere honestly.

It is important to remember that not every case is the same, and it is so important to just get in touch with me to figure out what kind of policy we can look at. Most of my clients with neuropathy don’t go through a waiting period, but I am not going to be misleading saying that you won’t.

I have no way of knowing that until I do some digging with you.

How Much Can I Get?

This is a great question that I get often.

The answer is you can get however much you need! Like I mentioned before, burial insurance policies are designed to cover final wishes, burials, cremations, etc.

To cover these needs, the policies range from $1,000 in coverage to $40,000

The important thing to remember is you should have a policy that fits your needs. This is not a one size fits all type of plan.

Each of my clients have unique needs, and not everyone needs the same level of coverage. I wrote an in depth article on this topic to try to help my readers understand how much burial insurance or final expense life insurance they should be looking into. You can access that here.

It is best to first decide whether you are looking to be buried or cremated, then decide if you want extra to leave behind as a gift. It is also extremely important to remember the unfortunate reality of inflation!

What it costs to die today, will likely double in the next 10-20 years. Always keep that in mind!
