What Happens if You Don’t Have Burial Insurance?

Many people think that it won’t be a big deal to put off burial insurance. Maybe you think you have enough money set aside for that day?

But what happens if you don’t have burial insurance? What does that look like for your family?

This article will be written by circumstances that I have personally seen both in my personal and professional life. Someone passing away without life or burial insurance is something I never wish on anyone.

Let’s get started.

What is Burial Insurance?

First things first, we need to know what exactly burial insurance is. I actually have in-depth articles about this on my website, you can check them out by clicking here

To keep it simple, burial insurance, or final expense insurance, is a form of life insurance that is designed to cover a person’s final expenses. Those would be something like a funeral, cremation, casket and plot, anything you can think of relating to the last expenses someone would have.

The reason they are called burial insurance or final expense policies is because of how they are structured. These types of life insurance policies range from $1,000 to $50,000 in coverage amounts.

They are not like term policies, in fact these policies will last the lifetime of the client, so you never have to worry if you will outlive the policy. Term policies are great, but for the right client.

These burial insurance policies are designed for people mostly age 50-85. There are exceptions with some carriers, but for the most part it is that age range.

Why do I need Burial Insurance?

This is a question I hear almost every day, and the answer is very simple, and can be asked with a question.

Are you going to die one day?

If you answer yes to that simple question, then you should have burial or final expense insurance. If you don’t then your loved ones, family, friends, or whoever will be in charge of your final wishes will most likely be financially responsible for your death.

This means that they will have to dig in their pockets for your casket, urn, tombstone, marker, plot, vault, anything you can think of. They will be the ones to pay the bill.

Luckily for my clients, they don’t have to worry about their loved ones being financially responsible, because they have it taken care of.

With burial insurance, once you pass away, your loved ones get a check in the mail very quickly, within a couple of days most of the time. How great is that? They can focus on the family and grieving instead of wondering where they are going to get the money to pay for a burial.

What if I don’t have it?

Not having burial insurance is typically not a pretty scene when you pass away. In my experience, it can be extremely sad and even more stressful on the family.

There are a number of things that people will do typically when this time comes and they can’t afford a proper burial. All of them can be avoided, but I will explain the circumstances I have personally seen.

Fund Raising

This is the most popular thing that people tend to do. There are multiple sites and organizations where people can go start fund raising for free mostly, and this happens a lot when people pass away.

Most likely, you have even seen people you know start online fund raises for people that have passed away in their life. Did they ever reach their goal? Many times they don’t.

When this happens, the family has some decisions to make. They typically have to settle for a simple and cheaper option for burial than they intended or wished for. This is what’s heartbreaking to me!

Garage Sales

This is another very popular way people try to raise money for their loved ones who have passed away. I see this all the time, especially living in a small town in the south!

We have garage sales frequently, but many times they are being held so that they can afford to properly bury their loved ones.

And again, just like the first option, many times they do not raise enough money, and eventually have to settle.

How to get Burial Insurance?

I’m glad you asked! In fact, this will probably be the easiest purchase of your life.

See, the best part of burial insurance is there are no medical exams. You don’t have to worry about some stranger coming to meet you to get your blood, urine, and sugar readings, or maybe even make you do a physical.

With burial insurance, it’s a simple prescription check, and you answer health questions that the carriers ask! That simple.

You can even get yourself a free quote here on my site! This will give you an idea of what you can expect roughly. Most of the time, the final price is cheaper, but this will give you an idea.

So no matter what health you are in, there is a policy for you, and at a price point that works for you.

My job is not to offer you the most expensive plan out there. My job is to provide you the best solution for you and your family. That is what I care the most about.
